Ayliffe et al. (1969): A study comparing one- and two-trolley systems in operating theatres found no increase in airborne or surface contamination with one trolley. However, trolley wheels and floor in the transfer zone had higher bacterial counts — a difference that disappeared after wheels were cleaned.
